The specimen is sent to the clinical laboratory where a medical laboratory scientist or molecular technologist performs the technical steps of a multiplex amplified probe technique (real-time PCR or similar platform). Results typically return within hours to a day, guiding antiviral therapy decisions, infection control measures, cohorting in inpatient settings, and public health reporting.
