What Insurers Must Do
Process all renewals via NIPR and use approved electronic payments
All 2026 producer appointment renewals must be processed electronically via NIPR during the renewal window (September 1–30, 2026). Payment methods accepted through NIPR are credit card, electronic check, or electronic funds transfer; NIPR will not accept paper check payments. If a company cannot renew electronically, the company must contact the South Carolina Department of Insurance to arrange mailing the invoice and check and explain why electronic renewal via NIPR is not possible.
- Renewal window: September 1–30, 2026.
- Accepted payment: credit card, electronic check, or EFT.
- NIPR will not accept paper check payments; contact the Department to arrange mailing if unable to renew electronically.
Terminate nonrenewed appointments before August 26, 2026
Insurers must terminate any producer appointments they do not wish to renew prior to August 26, 2026; appointments active through that date will be included in the 2026 renewal invoice. Individual terminations can be processed electronically via NIPR (or NIPR partner sites). Once NIPR creates the invoice, insurers will not be allowed to terminate producer appointments that would otherwise be included.
- Appointments active through August 26, 2026 are included in the 2026 renewal invoice.
- Terminate unwanted appointments before August 26, 2026 via NIPR; terminations not permitted after NIPR creates the invoice.
- New appointments added after August 26, 2026 will carry a 2028 renewal date and will not be included in the 2026 invoice.
Submit mailed renewals to the Department after NIPR closes (post‑Dec 1, 2026)
NIPR will not process renewals after December 1, 2026; beginning December 2, 2026, all renewal submissions must be mailed directly to the Department at the address provided and must include the NIPR appointment renewal invoice, the producer appointment fee, and any applicable penalty fee. When paying the Department, insurers must deduct the NIPR online processing fee from the invoice total before payment. Late renewals submitted after September 30, 2026 also incur a $250 penalty per appointment (penalty not waived).
- Mail submissions from December 2, 2026 to: South Carolina Department of Insurance, 1201 Main Street, Suite 1000, Columbia, South Carolina 29201.
- Include NIPR invoice, appointment fee, and penalty fee (if applicable) with mailed submission.
- Subtract the NIPR online processing fee from the invoice amount when paying the Department.
- Renewals submitted after September 30, 2026 incur a $250 penalty per appointment; NIPR ceases processing after December 1, 2026.
