Income eligibility determination procedures
Income eligibility is determined by comparing household income to 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines; if KWIC is unavailable, use the printed chart and manual procedures below.
Multiple-frequency incomes
- Multiply weekly income by 52.
- Multiply biweekly income (every 2 weeks) by 26.
- Multiply semimonthly income (twice a month) by 24.
- Multiply monthly income by 12.
- Do not round the values resulting from each conversion; add together all unrounded converted values to obtain total annual income.

State and Local Agency Actions for Eligibility Determination
Determine income eligibility using 185% of Federal Poverty Guidelines and follow State-issued guidelines
Use the Federal Poverty Guidelines at 185% to determine WIC income eligibility; the State Agency will issue annual Income Eligibility Guidelines to Local Agencies and implement them into KWIC so staff use the current chart for determinations.
- Household is income eligible if total income is less than or equal to 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for the household size.
- State Agency provides guidelines annually (effective on or before July 1) and coordinates implementation into the Kansas WIC MIS (KWIC).
