Historical minimums (chronological)
- Effective Jan 1, 2023: minimum primary coverage amount was $750,000 per accident for death, bodily injury, and property damage (Act 56).
- Effective Jan 1, 2024: Act 210 replaced the $750,000 standard with a requirement of 'four times the amounts set forth in section 431:10C-301(b)'.
- Scheduled change effective Jan 1, 2026: Act 138 strikes the 'four times' language from HRS § 431:10C-802, changing the statutory standard again effective Jan 1, 2026.

Peer-to-peer car-sharing programs must ensure that during each car-sharing period the shared car is insured under a motor vehicle insurance policy providing primary insurance coverage in the minimum amounts specified by statute.
