Provider Documentation and Equipment Requirements
Maintain Title 17, signage, registration, inspection proof, operator certificate, and dosimeter
Maintain and retain the required documentation and equipment for the DEXA scanner as specified by CCR Title 17 and the Radiologic Health Branch.
- Keep a copy of CCR Title 17 (California RHB requirements).
- Display a 'Caution X‑Ray in use' sign on or near the scanner door.
- Have a written statement that the provider has registered the scanner (registration info available on the Department of Radiology website).
- Keep a copy of a request for inspection or a certificate showing yearly inspections of the scanner.
- Ensure the DEXA operator holds a certificate of completion for DexaScan training.
- Provide a dosimeter for the operator for radiation monitoring.
Do not use lead apron or shield for DEXA scans
Do not use a lead apron or shield during DEXA scanning because it interferes with measurements; the procedure uses a very low radiation dose.
