Lymphaticovenular/Lymphaticovenous Anastomosis: A surgical procedure that connects small lymphatic vessels to adjacent venules to shunt excess lymphatic fluid (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).

Lymphedema: The build-up of fluid in soft body tissues when the lymph system is damaged or blocked (NCI).

Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer (VLNT): A surgical procedure that transfers skin, fat, and lymph nodes for lymphatic reconstruction (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).

Immediate Lymphatic Reconstruction (ILR)/LYMPHA: Preventive microsurgical lymphatic procedure performed at time of lymph node dissection intended to reduce risk of secondary lymphedema by creating lymphaticovenous anastomoses or other reconstructions.

LVA evidence summary: Lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) has evidence supporting reduction in severity/incidence of lymphedema in select patients, but overall evidence quality is low-to-moderate and many studies are observational or small randomized trials.

VLNT evidence summary: Vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) has evidence supporting reduction in severity of lymphedema, but is not curative and high-quality comparative trials are limited.
