ESWT devices generate focused or radial acoustic shock waves (low- or high-energy) that propagate through tissues; low-energy defocused waveforms are used for wound healing. Proposed mechanisms include mechanical disruption, cavitation/implosion of bubbles, transient inflammatory responses, and stimulation of tissue healing and angiogenesis.
