Clinical and Administrative Background

Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) is a platform-based testing system that evaluates an individual's ability to maintain balance by manipulating vision, proprioception, and vestibular inputs while a moving platform and support-surface conditions are changed to isolate contributors to imbalance. CDP is also referred to as moving platform posturography, dynamic posturography, balance board testing, or equilibrium platform testing and is intended to identify balance deficits that may relate to vestibular or other conditions.

Standard vestibular diagnostic tests used to evaluate balance and vestibular function include electronystagmography and rotational chair tests, which assess eye movements in response to head position and rotation stimuli. CDP differs in that it directly measures postural control and the ability to remain upright across varying sensory conditions rather than primarily assessing vestibulo-ocular responses.

The evidence base supporting CDP for diagnostic or evaluative use is limited and weak.
