Gastroesophageal and Gastrointestinal (GI) Services and Procedures
This Medicare Advantage policy documents UnitedHealthcare's coverage guidance and applicable coding references for a set of GI diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (electrogastrography/electroenterography, esophageal mucosal integrity testing, gastric electrical stimulation, POEM/G‑POEM/Z‑POEM, virtual upper GI endoscopy and related services). It is intended for use by providers and billing staff for UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans.
Added language indicating Medicare does not have an NCD for esophageal mucosal integrity testing by electrical impedance and that LCDs/LCAs do not exist; referenced UnitedHealthcare Commercial Medical Policy titled Gastrointestinal Disorders Diagnostic Procedures for coverage guidance.
Added CPT code 43499 to the Esophageal Mucosal Integrity Testing applicable codes list.
Removed CPT codes 74261 and 74262 (virtual colonoscopy / computed tomographic colonography) from the applicable codes list.
Archived previous policy version MMP039.16.
