Fecal calprotectin testing for diagnosis and monitoring of inflammatory bowel disease
This policy governs coverage and clinical use of fecal calprotectin testing (CPT 83993) for individuals 18 years and older, including differential diagnosis between IBD and IBS and monitoring/assessment of IBD treatment response or relapse.
For adults aged 18 or older, fecal calprotectin testing is reimbursable for differentiating non-inflammatory (e.g., irritable bowel syndrome) from inflammatory gastrointestinal disease (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease [IBD]) and for assessing response to therapy, relapse, or monitoring IBD.
