- Lymphedema when related to redundant tissue
- Pain attributable to the redundant tissue (e.g., shoulder pain, neck pain, thoracic spine pain, lumbago) when documented as caused by tissue redundancy
- Diastasis recti repair as part of abdominoplasty when contributing to functional impairment (note: diastasis recti repair is distinct from true hernia repair)
When a circumferential procedure is performed, only the portion that treats functional abnormality (usually anterior portion) is considered reconstructive; remaining portions are cosmetic
