Definitions (short):
MIS-C — Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children as defined by CDC criteria (fever ≥38°C, hospitalization, systemic inflammation, multisystem involvement) per policy.
MIS-A — Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults as defined by CDC criteria (hospitalization, fever, extrapulmonary organ involvement, inflammation, and evidence of SARS-CoV-2).
PPA — Positive percent agreement (used as the EUA/diagnostic sensitivity-equivalent metric).
NPA — Negative percent agreement (used as the EUA/diagnostic specificity-equivalent metric).
LoD — Limit of detection: lowest concentration detectable ≥95% of the time.
PSO — Post symptom onset (days since symptom onset).
NAAT — Nucleic acid amplification test (includes PCR); highly sensitive/specific for current infection.
Ag-RDT — Antigen-detecting rapid diagnostic test: rapid immunoassays detecting viral proteins; high specificity but lower sensitivity than NAATs.
RT-LAMP — Reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification: faster NAAT method enabling point-of-care use in some formats.
Rapid NAAT — NAAT with short analytic turnaround (commonly ≤30–60 minutes; testing time excludes transport/reporting delays).
Known exposure — Close contact (generally ≥15 minutes cumulative over 24 hours) with a confirmed COVID-19 case.
