Coverage Summary
Coverage summary: This policy (AHS - G2051) is CURRENT and defines mixed coverage for measurement of bone turnover markers (BTMs) in individuals with osteoporosis. It MEETS COVERAGE CRITERIA for BTMs when ALL of the following apply: the individual has osteoporosis and is about to begin or is actively being treated with bisphosphonates, testing is intended to assess compliance with bisphosphonate therapy or for fracture risk prediction, and testing is performed at specified intervals (baseline before initiation; every 3 months after initiation or change of therapy during the first year; and every 2 years when no medication changes have occurred).
