Serious Adverse Event and Hospital Acquired Illness
This policy governs Blue KC's reimbursement stance for Serious Adverse Events (including CMS-defined Hospital Acquired Conditions and NQF 'never events') and applies to contracted hospitals and ancillary providers across impacted lines of business.
Blood draws are considered to be a part of the lab service and are not separately reimbursed.
Inpatient modifiers for never events (MX, MY, MZ) were added.
Annual review updated with additional information and link for Hospital Acquired Conditions.
