Coverage for cerebral palsy: Gait analysis (comprehensive computer-based motion analysis and related CPT codes) is covered when filed with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy (ICD-10 codes G80.0–G80.9).

Supported by Medicare Advantage and Commercial product statements that gait analysis is covered with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

Other indications: For all other indications (for example: aging-related gait changes, stroke, spinal cord injury, clubfoot, intermittent claudication), gait analysis is considered not covered / not medically necessary because the evidence is insufficient to determine effects on health outcomes.

Policy cites limited and mixed evidence; comprehensive analysis may be medically necessary for surgical planning in children with cerebral palsy per clinical reviewer input but is not covered for other conditions.

Gait analysis is not covered / not medically necessary for indications other than cerebral palsy. Coverage is indication-specific; the service is covered only when filed with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy (ICD-10: G80.0–G80.9).
