Repeat testing when treatment resolves symptoms is also considered not covered in this context.
Laboratory-based vestibular function tests not described above (i.e., other than ENG/VNG, caloric, rotational chair) due to insufficient evidence.
Applies to Medicare Advantage and Commercial plans per policy.

Laboratory-based vestibular tests assess the vestibulo-ocular reflex and help distinguish central versus peripheral causes and unilateral versus bilateral deficits. Established tests include ENG/VNG test batteries, caloric stimulation, and rotational chair testing; caloric and rotational chair have been given Level A recommendations and are considered criterion standard tests of vestibular function. Vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) tests assess otolith function using loud sound or bone vibration, but the evidence is insufficient to determine that VEMP testing improves net health outcomes.
