It is intended to minimize disruption of paraspinous tissues and preserve the annulus and paraspinous soft tissues, but it requires increased fluoroscopic imaging, does not allow direct visualization of intracanal pathology or performance of a discectomy, and carries procedure-specific risks including bowel perforation and potential vascular or neural injury.
