Reimbursement information for laboratory tests in individuals suspected of having dry eye:

Tear osmolarity testing may be reimbursable when used to help determine the severity of dry eye disease or to monitor effectiveness of therapy.

Testing for MMP-9 protein in human tears is not reimbursable when dry eye disease is suspected based on a comprehensive eye examination.

Testing for lactoferrin and/or IgE is not reimbursable for individuals suspected of having dry eye disease.

All other dry eye testing not discussed above is not reimbursable for individuals suspected of having dry eye disease.

Providers are responsible for submitting accurate documentation of services performed and must submit claims using valid code combinations from HIPAA-approved code sets.
