General Inflammation Testing
Reimbursement and laboratory management criteria for measurement of C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) for specified inflammatory conditions for BCBSNM members and participating providers.
Reimbursement information reordered to list CRP before ESR and clarified that CRP may be conventional or high-sensitivity in the Table 1 introduction.
Measurement of ESR for individuals without a diagnosed inflammatory condition is not reimbursable.
Frequency guidance for several conditions was clarified, including Acute Hematogenous Osteomyelitis, Giant Cell Arteritis, Hodgkin Lymphoma, and Rheumatoid Arthritis (added annual testing when disease is inactive).
Hypereosinophilic Syndrome was removed from the coverage table and wording for test preference was changed from 'and' to 'or' for several conditions.
