Clinical Background & Evidence Summary

Saturation biopsy generally refers to taking more than 20 cores to improve sampling of anterior zones and can be performed transrectally or transperineally; the transperineal approach is often a stereotactic template-guided procedure performed under general anesthesia. By contrast, an extended biopsy strategy commonly uses 12–14 cores and is frequently used for initial biopsy in the office setting.
